veterinary experiential learning programme

Empowering Animal Health Professionals Through Behavioral Science

“From horses, we may learn not only about the horse itself but also about animals in general, indeed about ourselves and about life as a whole.”

Who it's for

This immersive educational journey has been crafted for the dedicated professionals and enthusiasts in the field of animal health and welfare. This programme is the pinnacle of hands-on learning, specifically designed for veterinary students, newly qualified vets, vet nurses, vet technicians, stud farm workers, animal husbandry specialists and animal healthcare providers.

To provide a well-rounded experience, our program also includes modules on dairy cows and sheep. Participants will gain firsthand experience with these animals, allowing for the application of cooperative care principles across different species.

This programme is led by Dr Marie Lavrut (English & German speaking) and equine behavioural specialist, Cornelia Scholtz (English & Afrikaans speaking).

About
dr Marie lavrut

Surrounded by horses from a young age, Dr Marie Lavrut has always been fascinated by the different personalities of horses and how differently they interact with one another as well as humans.

She visited Holistic Horse Academy in 2014, and learned a great deal about natural herd behaviour and body language of horses in their natural habitat.

In 2016, Dr Lavrut began her studies in veterinary medicine and graduated in 2022 with a specific focus on ruminants and horses.

She believes that newly qualified veterinary professionals and even students would greatly benefit from an immersive learning experience where they have hands on practical exposure as well as understand behavioural signals and cooperative care. This belief led her to set up this programme in partnership with equine behavioural specialist, Cornelia Scholtz.
